Prototype

A prototype is a sample of the invention.

In most cases a prototype works just as the product will that would be sold and looks close enough to the finished product that anyone can look at it and understand what the finished product would look like. A prototype can be a scaled model of the finished product if the scale model depicts the finished product sufficiently.

Creating a prototype can be very simple to extremely difficult, depending on what the invention is.

It is critically important to have a really good prototype. A high quality prototype will, in most cases, help in the patent process, marketing process and will almost always make a big difference in selling the idea. Don’t hesitate to put extra time, effort and money into a prototype to make it “the best it can be” and it will almost always pay off big in the long run.

Developing a prototype is a great way to “work the bugs out” of an invention and can usually save a great deal of time, money and frustration due to “having it right” well before taking it to manufacturing and/or marketing.

In most cases, manufacturing and/or marketing. cannot even be started without a prototype.
